Belleville is home to a beautiful winter landscape that screams frosty fun. Winter play doesn’t always need to be an outdoor activity. Festivals aren’t just for the summer anymore. Check out our annual local soup contest and family festival Savour the Chill & Stay Awhile in Downtown Belleville. Enjoy fresh local soups at various locations and a stop at the family fun village for arts & crafts. It’s not all about food though. You can also take in a riveting documentary film at our Annual Downtown DocFest, or if you need something with a little more heart pounding excitement, grab some rinkside seats at a professional hockey game and cheer on the AHL Belleville Senators.
Not afraid of the cold weather or snow? It is the perfect time to get out on snowshoes and explore our amazing trails or take a guided snowshoeing tour with a group. Check out snowshoeing adventures with Cruising Canoes, the perfect way to see our landscape without the bugs. Is walking a little too slow for you? Try Fat Biking, the popular new winter sport that lets you fly through the ice and snow. Learn more about Fat Bikes or rent one today at Ideal Bike, no amount of snow will be able to stop you. The Bay’s world famous fishing can be enjoyed during all four seasons. Ice fishing takes over the bay once the water freezes, and there are a variety of guides and ice hut rentals available (see On the Water section). The frozen bay isn’t just for fishing. Victoria Harbour provides the perfect location for some good old fashioned outdoor skating or hockey. We are also home to two brand new outdoor community rinks. We also have two family friendly tobogganing hills, one at East Zwick’s Park and one at Riverside Park, both perfect settings for an afternoon of family fun.
Christmas at the Pier is a Christmas Light Display at Jane Forrester Park and serves as the unofficial kick off to the Holiday Season. Enjoy live music, hot chocolate and free horse drawn carriage rides with County Carriage Co. every Friday night starting November 15 and enjoy the lighting up of the boardwalk with holiday spirit. The following Sunday, November 17th is the Annual Nighttime Santa Claus Parade, as Santa travels through the streets of Belleville and brings 70+ colourful floats, marching bands, elves, music, and family fun for all. These are two perfect events to kick off the holiday season in Belleville.
